CROWNS AND BRIDGES

Crowns and bridges are made to enhance the strength of your teeth.

They mimic the original form of your own teeth. This is why you wont feel any difference with the rest of your teeth. By applying crowns and/or bridges you will be able to use your teeth for chewing and biting for a long period of time. It usually is the best treatment for seriously damaged teeth due to bigger fillings, breakage or a root canal treatment.

What is a crown?

A crown is a porcelain cap that covers your original tooth. It is necessary to polish a bit of your tooth so the crown fits perfectly. The color and form are precisely adjusted to the color of your tooth and the rest of your teeth. The crown is cemented onto your own tooth and feels like one of your own afterwards.

When do I need a crown?

  • If one or more elements are missing
  • To enhance or recover the way of chewing
  • To enhance the look of your teeth

What to expect from a crown treatment? of een brug?

Step1:

During the first appointment the dentist will polish, with local anesthetic, away a little bit of your tooth. We strive to take away as little as possible. In this case we prevent pain and complications as much as possible. We will make an impression form the treated tooth. After that we will make an emergency crown or bridge that we attach with temporary cement. After this treatment the tooth technician needs about two weeks in the laboratory to finish accurately your crown or bridge.

Step 2:

The crown or bridge is ready and is placed onto your tooth after it’s been carefully checked for the right fitting. After that it is fastened with special tooth cement.

You will get instructions on how to keep the crown or bridge clean. It is very important to keep the gums around the edges of the crown or bridge clean, so the crown or bridge will last as long as possible. An accident is always possible, but usually a crown or bridge lasts around 10 to 15 years minimum.

PROSTHETICS

A good solution for lost teeth

When you are missing a couple of tooth elements, or if you lost them all due to unfortunate reasons, (partial) prosthetics are a good solution.

There are two options:

There is a choice between a prosthetic frame or a partial prosthetic. A prosthetic frame has a metal base, where a (partial) prosthetic is entirely made of synthetic material. It’s best to make the right choice together with your dentist. The quality of the rest of your teeth is usually decisive.

If you are already missing some teeth, we will make a complete prosthetic. It is also possible to make a combination of the beforementioned prosthetics.

Nowadays there’s also the possibility of a click prothesis. This is a complete prosthetic which you can ‘click’ onto implants. This ‘clicksystem’ makes the protheses stay fixed in your mouth so you can chew and bite without any problems. You can consult your dentist about the options to request a compensation by your insurance. Your dentist has to request an authority for this. Do ask your dentist about the possibilities.

In all of the above mentioned examples the prosthetic is made by an Amsterdam based prosthodontist who we closely work with. In this case we can discuss all of your questions and whishes easily, which will lead to the best results.

Good dental health starts with healthy gums

The gums are the fundament of your teeth and that’s why keeping your gums healthy is really important. The gums can inflame. You will usually notice this when your gum easily starts bleeding when your brush your teeth. It can also be a bit painful when eating. If nothing is done your teeth will come loose which eventually will result in the loss of your teeth.

You can prevent a lot teeth- and gum problems by regularly visiting the dental hygienist. Your teeth are cleaned thoroughly, also in the hard to reach places in your mouth. We will give you the necessary explanation and tips of how to keep your teeth as clean as possible yourself.

IMPLANTOLOGY

What is an implant?

Cavities, advanced dental inflammation or an accident can make you lose a tooth. A missing tooth can be replaced with an implant, this is a small titanium screw and can be compared with an artificial root of the tooth. A crown can be screwed on top of the implant. An implant is fitted in the jaw and feels like your own tooth. If you are missing more elements then a bridge can be screwed onto multiple implants as well. Implants are usually easily accepted and of high esthetic value.

A prosthetic on top of an implant is also possible, this is revered to as a click prosthetic.
This is of help when a fitting prosthetic can’t be made because of a small or very flat jaw. Two implants with a prosthetic on top is the right solution then. In case your current prosthetic is loose, your insurance usually covers the implants and the click prosthetic. A small percentage of the total invoice is paid by you.

What to expect from an implant treatment?

Step1: intra oral check

First the dentist will conclude if an implant is the right treatment for you. This decision is made as a result of a dental check and your medical health. An implant is not always the best option. Sometimes it is better to replace a tooth with a bridge or a (partial) denture or frame.

During the first consult you have the time to state your wishes and you will have time to ask all the questions you have about the implant. In case the dentist and you decide an implant is the best choice for you we will make a follow up appointment.

Step 2: placing of the implant

The placing of the implant is done operative and with local anesthesia. During the first appointment the dentist has made an imprint with which the chirurgical guide has been made. This chirurgical guide will place the implant accurately in your mouth. Because of this the probability of complications is reduced to a minimum and the treatment won’t take as long. We use a special technique which causes as little trauma to your jaw and gums as possible and there’s almost no after pain either. The day after the placement of the implant the dentist will always check up with you.
